GOFILA – THE BEGINNING OF OUR EFFORTS

The village of Gofila is located about 20 km from the provincial town of Kaya and could have already looked like this 1,000 years ago. There are about 6,000 inhabitants living there, spread over six settlements. About 60% of the inhabitants are under 16 years old. Gofila is located in the southern foothills of the Sahel and has three months of rainy season and nine months of drought. Through Father Emanuel, the contact to Burkina Faso was established. He lived in Germany for several years, some of them in Jettingen-Scheppach. Emanuel and his family come from the village of Gofila. He now works as director of the Catholic school system of the diocese of Kaya and is responsible for 30 schools in this region.
