CONSTRUCTION OF FIRST AND SECOND SEGMENT OF THE HORST WALZ PRIMARY SCHOOL IN GOFILA
In 2015/2016, we built a primary school with six classrooms in consultation with Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Education and the village community. The construction of the primary school was realized in collaboration with the villagers, who have collected some raw material, for example, sand and stones.
Annicet Ouedraogo, our employee on site, carried out a tendering process for both construction phases. Finally, we decided to work with the construction company CFPAK from Kaya. The costs for this project, including inventory, were about 53,000 EUR. The school is located on a property right next to one of our deep wells.
In February 2015, we started the construction of the school. The first construction stage consisted of three classrooms, one storage room, one toilet block and a kitchen. The first building segment was completed in September 2015, on schedule for the school enrollment. Since it is a state school, the government has delegated a teacher who now lives in one of the classrooms.
In September 2016, the construction of three more classrooms was finished. About 200 children currently attend our school in first and second grade.
Between 80 and 100 children aged between six and twelve years are taught per class. So far, only 50 % of the children in Gofila were able to go to school. Now, all children have the possibility to attend six years of primary school.
