Strohhütten in Gofila, Lagerung,

The village Gofila is situated about 20 km away from the provincial town Kaya and could have looked like it does today already 1,000 years ago. About 5,000 inhabitants live there, spread over more or less six settlements. About 60 % of the residents are under the age of 16. Gofila is located in the southern reaches of the Sahel and has at best three months of rainy season and nine months of drought. By meeting Father Emanuel, who lived in Germany (i.a. Jettingen-Scheppach) for a couple of years, we got in touch with Burkina Faso. Emanuel and his family are from Gofila. He now works as headmaster of the catholic school system of Kaya’s diocese and is responsible for 30 schools in this region.
